Chalet le Marmotte is a typical mountain chalet situated at 1800 metres above sea level on the Italian/French border (see map or google earth – Colle di Tenda pass). The strategic position of the Chalet allows you to appreciate the peace and quiet of the mountains, whilst admiring the magnificient panorama. It’s also a great setting-off point for a variety of excursions. The more experienced walkers will greatly appreciate the ‘Rocca dell’Abisso’ trek, in alternative less than 1 klm away is the first of 6 fortifications built at the end of the 1800’s (see map). From the Chalet you can explore the various beaten tracks and paths via mountain bike, quad and motorbike. Most tracks can take off-road vehicles. The internationally known ‘Via del Sale’ takes you through the mountains to Monesi (a hinterland village in Liguria) where you can then proceed down to the Ligurian coast (45 klms to Monesi, nearly 100 klms to Ventimiglia), in alternative beaten tracks lead you through France to Casterino and Tenda.
In the summer you can reach our chalet very easily from Quota 1400 (Limone Piemonte) by car on a tarmac road with a good parking area, whilst in the winter by taking the ‘Colle di Tenda’ chair lift once again from Quota 1400. Whether walking or skiing our Restaurant offers a range of typical mountain dishes – polenta with sausage stew, deer stew, polenta ‘concia’ (mixed cheese sauce), cream of leek sauce with Speck, polenta with lard, Raschera cheese and walnuts. We also serve a variety of antipasti, pasta and main courses. To finish your meal we have our home-made cakes and desserts.
Chalet le Marmotte is ideally placed for a peaceful day in the mountains, you can relax on the terrace in our free deck-chairs taking advantage of our bar/restaurant service whilst admiring the alpine flora and fauna including the marmots of course!
We welcome you to a friendly family atmosphere and don’t miss the many photos and curiosities on display in the bar/restaurant.
The mountain village of Limone Piemonte lies 12 klms down the valley (direction Cuneo) and is well worth a visit.
