Among the many activities in favour of the Italian cultural and historical heritage, since 1998 the Italian Touring Club selects and certifies with the Orange Flag the excellent small villages of the hinterland. This Territorial Programme develops in complete coherence with the nature and history of Touring, in line with all its initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable tourism development, where the protection of the territory and heritage is linked to the authenticity of the travel experience.

The Orange Flag, a tourism-environmental quality mark, has been designed from the point of view of the traveller and his or her visiting experience. It is awarded to places that not only enjoy a valuable historical, cultural and environmental heritage, but are also able to offer tourists a quality welcome, and is an instrument for enhancing the territory.
